I started with a book and a blog, now I’m here…

This all started because I got this crazy idea to be a writer…

It was 2006 and I was six years into a very successful corporate relocation business I built from the ground up. But I was completely burned out and unhappy. I’d just learned I was pregnant with my second child and did not want to spend one more minute managing office moves. All I wanted to do was write. I wanted to write with every fabric of my being. Specifically, I wanted to write novels and be a columnist for O Magazine.

I didn’t end up writing for O Magazine but I did write/publish my first book, Your Big Sister’s Guide to Surviving College, I wrote for other lesser-known print publications, and wrote novels in between. While doing publicity for my book, I was often approached by women wanting to know how I “did it” while paying bills and running after two small children. These inquiries moved me to launch a coaching practice dedicated to helping women live an inspired life amidst the imperfections and chaos of the everyday.

Writing and coaching led to blogging… Blogging led to podcasting, speaking, and more writing for (now online) publications…

All of the above led to the sweet life as a social media influencer and working with major brands which led to social media marketing/influencer relations consultant, creative director, and copywriter (sometimes simultaneously) WHEW!

And then… burn out… again…

While marketing paid the bills, it was sucking my creative soul dry. I longed to get back to my writing roots but I had nothing! I decided to put what little creative energy I had left into helping others with their creative projects. I helped writers and filmmakers perfect their manuscripts, screenplays, and pitch documents as an editor and creative champion.

So how did I get to the point of being a screenwriter?

True, I answered the call of “writing” but just fell short of the mark. My passion is for fiction and film but since I’d carved out a nice little non-fiction /memoir-ish niche for myself, I thought I kind of missed the boat. Especially since I am over 50 and never went to film school. But I couldn’t ignore the hollering of my heart.

In 2017, right before my 45th birthday, I decided to actively and relentlessly pursue what sets my soul on fire.

I answered a "screenwriter wanted, no experience necessary" request on social media. A director was looking for good storytellers for a drama series he was developing and added me to his writing team. Since that first opportunity, the rest came divinely. Friends and friends of friends brought me into their projects or recommended me for others. I've collaborated with other writers, producers, and directors to create scripts for drama, comedy, and children's television pilots, short films, web series, audio dramas, and more. One of my audio-drama pilots was a 2nd Rounder in the 2023 Austin Film Festival Script Competition.

I have been so blessed for things to work this fast. I didn't expect to have all this work under my belt so soon after giving myself permission to do it.

Now it's time for my work to be seen and embraced by those who believe in me and will further propel my career.
